An almost kilometre-long labyrinth of passages and cellars

The Green Market is one of the oldest squares in Brno and was first mentioned in the early 13th century as the Upper Market. It has always been a busy place where fresh food was traded. The cellars that were built under the individual houses therefore served not only their owners, but also as facilities for market traders and shelter in times of war. Their secrets remained hidden for a long time, and it was not until modern explorations revealed the entire labyrinth, which underwent a complete structural overhaul in 2009. The result was a unique set of historic cellars and passages that opened to the public in 2011. Guided tours will offer practical information about how food was once stored or what was used for lighting as you explore the nooks and crannies of the medieval passages and cellars hidden up to eight metres below the surface. In addition to the real archaeological finds, visitors can also see a replica of an alchemist's laboratory, a medieval tavern or a torture chamber.

Are you tuned in to the medieval wave? Don't hesitate to climb Špilberk Castle!
